In a pioneering move blending technology with compassion, Swiggy, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, has introduced “Swiggy Pawlice”—a feature within its app designed to assist pet owners in locating their missing pets. Launched on April 11, 2024, coinciding with National Pet Day, this initiative leverages Swiggy’s extensive network of over 3.5 lakh delivery partners to aid in the search for lost pets.
How Swiggy Pawlice Works
Swiggy Pawlice empowers pet parents to report missing pets directly through the Swiggy app. Users can provide essential details and upload photos of their lost pets. Once a report is filed, Swiggy’s vast network of delivery partners—who are constantly traversing neighborhoods—becomes instrumental in the search.
If a delivery partner spots a pet matching the description, they are instructed to notify a dedicated team at Swiggy with the location details, without attempting to retrieve the animal themselves. The Swiggy team then promptly shares this information with the pet owner, facilitating a potential reunion. Delivery partners who go above and beyond in these efforts are recognized and rewarded by Swiggy.
A Broader Commitment to Pet Welfare
Alongside Swiggy Pawlice, the company has introduced a “Paw-ternity Policy” for its full-time employees. This pet-friendly policy includes benefits such as leave for pet adoption, remote work options during a pet’s settling-in period, and time off for pet care, including vaccinations and illness. Employees are also entitled to bereavement leave in the unfortunate event of a pet’s passing.
Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, emphasized the initiative’s significance, stating, “As a pet parent myself, I understand firsthand the worry and anguish that accompanies the thought of a pet going missing. While I sincerely hope that such a distressing event never occurs to any fellow pet parent, if it does, Swiggy Pawlice stands ready to be a dependable resource to assist them.”
Community and Corporate Responsibility
The launch event in Mumbai featured Shantanu Naidu, General Manager at Tata Trusts, who lauded Swiggy’s initiative. He remarked, “For a business like Swiggy to lead by example and take responsibility is exactly what we need to see in today’s world. We want the services we rely on daily to demonstrate empathy and mindfulness towards the world around us.”
Swiggy Pawlice exemplifies how businesses can harness their existing infrastructure to serve broader community needs, fostering a culture of empathy and proactive engagement in societal issues.
